News: KPI To Be Extended To Private Varsities Too

The Key Performance Index (KPI) will also be extended to the private institutions of higher learning to monitor their performance so that the Higher Education Ministry can identify the weaknesses of the private universities.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said efforts to identify the weaknesses existing in the private universities would enable improvements to be made.

“All vice-chancellors of the private universities must ensure that the graduands churned out meet the quality standards specified. They must also ensure that the university under their charge is governed in a transparent and efficient manner.

“They must also strive to achieve research and development (R&D) that they can be proud of,” he told reporters after attending a briefing on Universiti Kuala Lumpur, here today.

Mohamed Khaled said the KPI for the vice-chancellors would be the yardstick to gauge the effectiveness of their leadership in their respective universities.

“The objective of a particular vice-chancellor must be guided by the criteria for excellence for the institution,” said Mohamed Khaled.

He hoped that the private universities would adopt the best measures to ensure that they met the KPI stipulated.
